Update (5/2012): Cavan Havlik continues to gain strength everyday and is looking forward to next winter.

About Cavan

I currently live in McCoy, CO near Vail mountain. I grew up skiing Vail and the surrounding areas but try and ski as many different places as I can. I love to ski, snowboard, play hockey, mountain bike, surf, hunt, spend time with good friends and live in the mountains.

Career Background

Right now I am working on finding a career that will allow me to live in the mountains and ski. I taught skiing for three years at Jackson Hole before my injury. This winter I plan to stay in the Vail area working as a part time ski instructor while working at the Alpenrose restaurant and doing some work with Paragon Guides . I would like to get more involved in the backcountry aspect of skiing and working on getting more experience and certificates. Although I have not yet determined my career path, I know that skiing and the mountains will be part of my life and hopefully my career.

Treatment Procedure and Recovery Plan

I had hip arthroscopy on July 27, 2010. I was on crutches for four weeks going to physical therapy every day. I am 13 weeks out of surgery and ready to take my sports test and be cleared by the doctor. I should be able to teach skiing this winter and look forward to skiing on two good legs.

Testimonial

"The Kees Brenninkmeyer Foundation has gone above and beyond for me. I cant explain in words what a difference this has made in my life. At 28 years old I could not ski let alone pursue a career in that field. The foundation has given me the oppertunity to continue what I love to do and to pursue a career in the ski industry. Without them my skiing days would be limited. I am so grateful that I can continue to ski and pursue something I am passionate about. Every day I ski will be because of them and I will never forget their gift."
