Update (12/2014): Annie has returned to her position as the Snow School Director at Martock Ski Resort.
I currently live in Falmouth, Nova Scotia and have two beautiful daughters, Sophie (age 9) and Kara (age 6). I grew up skiing at Martock and it’s great watching my girls develop a love for the sport that has played such a big role in my life. During the summer months I manage clubhouse operations at a nearby golf and country club. When I’m not working, I enjoy swimming, going to the beach and camping with my girls.
My introduction to skiing was through a school trip to Martock when I was in grade four and I haven’t looked back. Now a level two instructor I’m also a certified coach, CADS instructor and have my level one snow park certification. While Martock has been my home hill for most of my skiing career I moved out west and taught at Lake Louise in 2001. I quickly realized there’s no place like home and returned to Martock for the end of the season. I became the Snow School Director in 2005 and oversee a team of 75 ski and snowboard instructors. I am passionate about teaching and sharing my love of the industry with both my clients and coworkers. I love introducing new clients to the sport and helping them reach their goals.
Treatment Procedure and Recovery Plan
On March 26, 2013 The Steadman Clinic did an ACL Allograft on my left knee. Physical therapy started the next day and I continued physio twice a week following my return to Nova Scotia for the first three months and once a week for an additional three months. When I left Vail I was well equipped with a plan not only for phsyio but also strengthening. Many hours were spent on a stationary bike and in the gym strengthening my left knee and now nine months later I’m back on snow.
"I believe you should do what makes you happy and when possible you should live your passion. It was heartbreaking to find myself sidelined by an injury at the beginning of the season (it was only my second day on snow), unable to teach, ski or complete my level three certification, a goal I had been working towards. The Kees Brenninkmeyer Foundation is amazing and the support I received, from the start of my application all the way through to surgery and rehabilitation has been outstanding. I will never fully be able to express my gratitude for the amazing gift this foundation has given me and the exceptional care I received through The Steadman Clinic. Nine months later I am back on snow, feeling great and living my passion."
